Take a break and enjoy a picnic or a bushwalk perched on the banks of the lovely Kangaroo River. Explore the past – see the way our pioneering families lived and worked their farms in bygone days. A great way to indulge both body and mind – for all the family.
The Pioneer Museum Park is one of the major tourist attractions in Kangaroo Valley. The Museum Park, a self-funded, voluntary organisation, was established to give a snapshot of life in the 1800s when Kangaroo Valley was settled first by cedar timber cutters and later by farmers. The Park also manages and displays a collection of artefacts of the original Indigenous inhabitants of the area, the Wodi Wodi tribe.
There is a variety of activities for visitors to engage in within the Museum complex which covers an area of 2.5 hectares, some being a relocated family homestead over 100 years old along with farm buildings and equipment used during the early pioneering days of Kangaroo Valley.
Friday to Monday, and by appointment Summer: 10am - 4pm, Winter: 11am - 3pm
$4 adults, $3.50 seniors, $2.50 children $10 family groups (2 adults + children)

All About Kangaroo Valley
Kangaroo Valley is a stunningly beautiful valley surrounded by steep escarpments, nestled between the white beaches of the South Coast and the Southern Highlands in New South Wales. It is reputed to be one of only seven fully enclosed valleys in the world.
It is difficult to do justice to the beauty of Kangaroo Valley. In fact the valley’s first European explorer, George Evans, described a view that “no painter could beautify”.
The combination of rainforest clinging to the steep slopes of the escarpment, the splendour of the river as it weaves its way through the countryside, the patchwork quilt of farms, and the small creeks which cross the valley, all make it a special and strikingly attractive place. These qualities have been recognised by the National Trust, which classified the village in 1977.
Kangaroo Valley is only two hours from Sydney and Canberra, so why be anywhere else?

This week's visit to the Shoalhaven by leader and Abbot of the Shaolin Buddhist order, the Venerable Shi Yong Xin, has revealed a number of impressive statistics associated with the planned temple, teaching, tourist, cultural and residential complex.
The total value of the development planned for the 1248 hectare Comberton Grange property has been put at $750 million, however its value to the local economy goes far beyond that.
Shoalhaven tourism manager Tom Phillips has estimated the tourism boost the temple and associated development would provide to the Shoalhaven would be 150,000 international and 300,000 domestic visitors each year.
And he said those figures were conservative and, more importantly, would not be as seasonal as the region's existing market.
That level of visitation would bring $171 million annually into the Shoalhaven and $316 million into the NSW economy, generating 3400 jobs throughout the State - half of them within the Shoalhaven.
Also impressive is the temple's potential impact the region's growing move into higher education, with the Chinese education system giving permission for training doctors in traditional Chinese medicine at the planned complex.
But even more impressive than the figures was the obvious respect the Shaolin monks had for the Australian bushland, and the regions unique flora and fauna, which they have promised to preserve.
Indeed, areas planned for development comprised sections already cleared and a degraded pine plantation, leaving the native bushland virtually untouched.
Clearly with so many benefits, this is a development ideally suited to an environmentally sensitive region like ours.

Shoalhaven Coast Wine Industry Association Inc. (SCWIA Inc.)., formerly known as the Shoalhaven Coast Grape Growers and Winemakers Association Inc., was renamed in 2003 to reflect the changing nature of the association. From a loosely bound group of grape growers, wine makers and social members the SCWIA Inc. has found a new direction, committed philosophically and financially to the advancement of the region by co-operative marketing and education.
Following sponsorship by SCWIA Inc. the Shoalhaven Coast Wine Region was granted GI (Geographic Indication) recognition in August 2002, becoming Australia’s 95th wine region. In the same year the region was the subject of a phylloxera survey, by the Department of Agriculture, which found the region to be free of the disease and has moved towards being formally declared phylloxera-free by 2004.
The region now boasts 19 wine grape growers, 11 cellar doors and 6 operating wineries with a total production of 500 tonnes or approximately 400,000 bottles.

The Australian Aerial Patrol is probably most widely known for its regular shark spotting and beach safety patrols along the coastline between Broken Bay, Jervis Bay, and Batemans Bay.
These patrols are undertaken on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays throughout the course of summer and constitute an observation platform for recreational safety beit, swimming, surfing, boating, fishing, bushwalking and the like as well as maintaining a watchful eye on potential bushfire hazards. As well, the Aerial Patrol is available to respond to an emergency 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In recent years, the Australian Aerial Patrol has expanded its level of service to the communities of the south east region of New South Wales and through its affiliation with the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association, to the regional inland centres throughout NSW.
An accreditation under the State Rescue Policy, administered by the NSW Rescue and Emergency Services Board, provides the necessary authority to the Aerial Patrol to assist and support all land and marine based emergency services when appropriate.

Booderee is an Aboriginal word from the Dhurga language meaning 'bay of plenty' or 'plenty of fish'. The White-bellied Sea Eagle is one of the many birds you can see around the park. This large white and grey eagle is the guardian of the Aboriginal people of Wreck Bay, and is represented in the park logo.
The National Park and Botanic Gardens were handed back to the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community in 1995. The Community and the Australian Government, through the Director of National Parks, now jointly manage the Park and the Botanic Gardens.
