Booderee is an ideal place to see the abundance of flowering plants and animals in the heath, forest and coastal tea-tree communities.
Heath grows in shallow soils and provides a colourful floral display in spring. Southern mahogany and blackbutt are the main trees found in the forests. Small pockets are enriched with species such as lilly pilly and hard corkwood -remnants from the warm temperate rainforests that once dominated eastern Australia. Beneath the canopy mats of ferns and creepers scramble over the ground and weave in and out of the trunks and branches. In the woodland, bloodwood and silvertop ash dominate.
Along the walking trails you may encounter many birds including honeyeaters sipping nectar from banksias, shy eastern bristlebirds foraging in the heath and perhaps a white-bellied sea eagle soaring above. Many insects and other small animals live in the foliage and leaf litter and sometimes quiet walkers see wallabies or grey kangaroos grazing beside the trails.
On total fire ban days Booderee National Park remains open to visitors, however all walking trails are closed, other than beach access trails.
A brochure including a map of Booderee's walking trails is available at the Visitor Centre.

Jervis Bay Fishing
For those who prefer the shelter of the bay, there is usually a feed to be had with the ever present Flathead, occasional Snapper and Sea Bream and some Trevelly and small Kingfish.
Some trolling around the washes usually produces Australian Salmon and Tailer depending on the season.
Spear Fishing
Jervis Bay and its surroundings have earned a reputation among fishers and spear fishermen alike as the home to some of the largest fish you are likely to encounter. The region is washed through by seasonal oceanic currents and with them a variety of great sport fish arrive in immense numbers.
With the clear, blue water surrounding Jervis Bay, every trip offers a chance at catching a challenging and rewarding catch.
Game Fishing
Jervis Bay can really fire up on game fishing for Marlin and Mahi Mahi as summer sets in and it is not uncommon to hook upwards of 4 Marlin per day when they are on. Marlin fishing is generally good through until April with it peaking in the middle of February early March.
Game Fishing in Autumn, Winter and Spring sees us getting amongst the Tuna. Namely Albacore and Yellowfin, and plenty of Blue and Mako Sharks.
Autumn and Spring provides some of the mildest and calmest weather, and it can be an absolute pleasure just to be on the water.
Reef and Deep Sea Fishing
There is always a feed to be caught on the broken reefs and gravel patches outside the bay and Fishing for table fish remains good even through winter when the days are calm and there is little or no current to contend with. The cooler months are when some very deep water can be fished.

Tomerong Village Kennels - TVK is a small personalised establishment where we consider your family dog as part of our family. We are located on a 5 acre rural property on the outskirts of Tomerong Village just 20 minutes or so from Nowra, 25 minutes to Ulladulla, and only 10 minutes from beautiful Jervis Bay - Huskisson and Vincentia. If you are traveling from Sydney or suburbs, we are conveniently located for easy drop off to destinations on the far South Coast of NSW.
Our fees are not affected by holiday period surcharges, or the size of your dog. The smallest and the largest of breeds deserves the same care and attention, and regular human interaction. We seek to provide a level of individual attention close to that you provide yourself at home.
We specialise in longer term stays, so your family can enjoy that well earned break, and you can relax with the knowledge that your mate(s) are being well looked after. If your dog has a buddy (or even two or more buddies) - they can share and remain in each others company during your holiday. Short term stays are also catered for where possible.

Whales Down Under
Whales have long been significant in Australia. Mytholgy, oral history and Archaeological evidence suggest they have been important to Aboriginal peoples for millennia. Since European arrival in the late 18th Century, whales have also been significant to settler society - hunted for close on two centuries from settlement.
Attitudes towards whales shifted dramatically in the second half of the 20th century, and by late 1970s public opinion was against whaling. As marine conservation has gathered strength, so to has the popularity of whale watching, particularly during the epic migrations of species that travel between Antarctica and the warmer waters of Australia. More than 1.6 million people each year witness these magnificent animals, which invoke nothing short of awe as they rise and breach, or their mighty tale flukes hang above the water's surface before disappearing beneath.
This stamp issue features four species of whales that inhabit our waters. The humpbacks Whales (Megaptera novaengliae)is the most common seen, playing aquatic highways along our east and west coasts. The Blue Whale (Balaenoptera musculus) is the behemoth of whale species, and has been sighted off south - western Victoria across to Rottnest Island WA. The fin Whale (Balaenoptera physalus) is second in size only to the Blue Whale and like the Blue Whale is listed as endangered. Both the Fin Whale and the curious - looking shy Southern Bottlenose Whale (Hyperoodon planifrons) are open - sea species and infrequently observed.
For your chance to win an Australia Post First day issue Whales Down Under - Australia Post Stamps Pack, book a Whale watching adventure tour with one of our Tourism Jervis Bay's Whale Watching listings. See individual operators for details ...

Booderee National Park and Booderee Botanic Gardens are the names chosen by the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community for the former Commonwealth Jervis Bay National Park and Jervis Bay Botanic Gardens.
Booderee is an Aboriginal word from the Dhurga language meaning 'bay of plenty' or 'plenty of fish'. The White-bellied Sea Eagle is one of the many birds you can see around the park. This large white and grey eagle is the guardian of the Aboriginal people of Wreck Bay, and is represented in the park logo.
The National Park and Botanic Gardens were handed back to the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community in 1995. The Community and the Australian Government, through the Director of National Parks, now jointly manage the Park and the Botanic Gardens.
